Daily Lesson 3 ~
January 3

I do not truly understand anything I look upon.

I do not truly understand anything I look upon in this place (in this room, from this window, in this yard or park, etc.) (because nothing I look upon means anything in Reality).

Apply this idea in the same way as the previous two lessons, without making distinctions of any kind. Whatever you glance upon becomes a proper subject for applying the idea. For instance,

“I do not truly understand this pencil.”

“I do not truly understand this phone.”

“I do not truly understand that curtain.”

“I do not truly understand that driveway.”

Be sure not to question the suitability of anything for the application of the idea, even if you are certain that you do understand the things you look upon during this exercise.

These are not exercises in judgment, but in releasing you from judgment. Anything is suitable if you glimpse it. Some of the things you look upon may have emotionally-charged meaning for you. Try to lay such feelings aside, and merely use these things exactly as you would anything else in your visual vicinity.

The point of these first exercises is to help you clear your mind of all past associations; to perceive things exactly as they appear to you now, in this moment without your associated concepts; and to realize how little you really do understand about these things in a more universal sense. It is therefore essential that you keep a perfectly open mind, unhampered by judgment, in selecting the things to which the idea for the day is applied. For this purpose one thing is exactly like another, equally suitable and therefore equally useful.

This lesson, like the first two, should be done with a comfortable sense of leisure for a minute or so twice a day, preferably in the morning and evening.

Principle of Miracles 3

Miracles occur naturally as expressions of Love. The Universal Miracle is the intense Love of the Divine that inspires all miracles. In this sense everything that comes from Love is a miracle.

Commentary

Every expression of Love is maximal, which means that every miracle is as effective as is possible in each circumstance. This relates to the first principle that there are no levels or orders of magnitude of difficulty in the performance of miracles.
